Social welfare policies in the Global South
Dr. Marianne S. Ulriksen, Associate Professor at the Danish Centre for Welfare Studies (DaWS), at the Department of Political Science and Public Management, University of Southern Denmark, introduced the audience to ideas and concepts in social protection focusing on developing countries in the Global South in an online webinar on 20th October. She provided a conceptual and historical approach to social protection in the Global South and, more specifically, the development context of social policy in the cases of South Africa and Tanzania. The main focus of the talk was on ideas and approaches that explain why there has been an emphasis on increasing social welfare policies in developing countries in the Global South from various perspectives on justice and development.
