Exam preparation requires a lot of planning and preparation. An overall healthy diet is necessary to keep the body and brain nourished and keep the energy levels high. Research shows consuming certain food maybe important for good mental performance.Here are certain foods that can help you cope during the exam

Stay Hydrated: First thing in the morning, students should drink water and sip it regularly. Water increases the chemical reactions in our bodies and, therefore, can improve how we process information. Doctors recommend drinking 1.2 litres of water a day for proper mental health. In addition, consuming an adequate amount of water can help you to boost your concentration and remove toxins.

Even dehydration can lead to a lack of focus and concentration in studying, so keeping yourself hydrated is essential.

Consume Breakfast: Breakfast is known as the essential meal of the day. Always have good protein and fibre rich food. Never skip the day’s first meal as you are breaking the fast after having the previous day’s meal.

Go Easy on Sugar: Students are often tempted to snack on junk food while studying. However, it was discovered that this causes a rush in sugar levels followed by crashing blood sugar levels which causes fatigue among other illnesses.

Eat Green and Fresh Vegetables: Green and dark vegetables contain more nutrients than other vegetables. It is essential to consume more vegetables such as spinach, broccoli, legumes, bell peppers among others. They also contain B6 and B12 which are associated with improvements in alertness and memory.Caffine intake should also be reduced. It is advisable to curtain the coffee intake to 2 cups per day as it comes with side effects such as migranes and fatigue. Include water or green – tea which contain antioxidants which is good for health.

Healthy Snacking: Snacking on healthy food is really beneficial for health. Instead of sugary food, snacking on nuts, cottage cheese, figs.yoghurt have proven healthy alternatives. Further, these protein-rich foods help in memory retention and alterness and help to increase energy levels. Keeping fruits such as apples, apricots, bananas in hand helps you to stop unnecessarily eating.

Blueberries are good for brains, because they contain powerful antioxidants and other nutrients.

Iron and Vitamin in your Diet: Iron and Vitamin D are essential to keep the mental and physical energy afloat. Fish and Soy also help in boosting the brain by providing the required nutrients.

It is said that you are what you eat. Therefore, the healthier you eat, the fit you become. So during examinations, take adequate care to eat nutritious food to be physically and mentally strong.
