Prior to joining MU, J.L.Bhattacharya worked for over 32 years at Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. in the Corporate R&D Division, Hyderabad, from where he superannuated in year 2012 as an Additional General Manager. He was involved in research related electrical rotating machines, power systems, controls and power electronics. He was also involved in research related to superconducting machines. Thereafter, he worked as a Professor in an Engineering College affiliated to Osmania University, namely, Muffakham Jah College of Engineering and Technology for two years.
His current teaching and research interests are:
- Teaching: Machine modeling, Design of Electrical Machines, Reliability of Power Systems and Electronics.
- Research Interests: Superconducting Machines, Cryogenics, Traction motor design, Power Electronics and Controls, Electro Magnetic Fields, Power Systems, Microgrid/ Smartgrid, Electric Vehicles.
